North East India's first home-based healthcare service, HOMELTH, aiming to reach healthcare services to the homes of those in need of medical need was launched here today.

''This is a paradigm change in the way medical care is delivered wherein instead of patients going to the hospital, medicare comes to one's home and quality care is delivered at the patient's bedside where they can recuperate at their comfort and convenience'', he said.

It has been observed that 75 per cent of the patients usually throng a hospital OPD are actually those who can be treated in the comfort and convenience of one's home and many aspects of less critical care can now be provided at home threby freeing specialists and superspecialists to take care of more critical cases, Sharma added.

''HOMELTH is a modern innovative and technology service wherein the traditional concept of the familiar friendly family physician has been blended with modern innovative and technological breakthroughs in medical science to deliver the best home medical care services in the city'', he added.

The services will be available initially within Guwahati but it will be gradually extended to other parts of Assam and subsequently to other Northeast states.

The service will not only have doctors and nurses reaching the homes of those in need of medical attention but also ancillary services like sample collection for conducting laboratory tests, delivery of medicines and ECG at the doorstep of the patients.
