ULFA Assistant Information and Publicity Secretary Arunodoy Asom said in a statement e-mailed to PTI that the outfit has called for mass boycott.

Besides ULFA, the other outfits that have joined the boycott call are NDFB, the Coordination Committee of Manipur's seven outfits, National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and Tripura People's Democratic Front (TPDF).

The customary boycott will be effective from 1 am to 5.30 pm on January 26, the statement said.

Emergency measures, essential services, media and religious activities have been exempted from the purview of the boycott, the statement added.

The outfits alleged that there was heavy investment in militarisation and policing in the region and under the mask of ceasefire, suspension of operation, homecoming ceremonies and military civic action programmes, the government was indulging in covert military operations.
