With the north east monsoon
setting in over the southern region, Tamil Nadu has witnessed good spells of rain across the state, the weather office said today.
The north east monsoon, which brings the bulk of annual rainfall to Tamil Nadu (48 per cent), had set in yesterday.

According to rain statistics recorded at 8.30 am, Mylaudi (Kanyakumari District) and Ayikudi (Tirunelveli Dist) received a maximum of 8 cm each, followed by Pechiparai (Kanyakumari Dist-7 cm) and Tenkasi (Tirunelveli Dist) and Virudhunagar at 6 cm each.
Many other parts of the state also received significant amounts of rainfall, the Regional Meterological Department said.
Chennai received sharp showers this morning with water inundating low-lying areas.
The weather office has forecast heavy rain over Coastal Tamil Nadu on October 30.
