NEAC not conducted for last 2 years due to lack of funds: govt

The government has not been able to conduct the National Environment Awareness Campaign (NEAC) for the last two financial years due to inadequacy of funds, the Lok Sabha was informed today.

Environment Minister Anil Madhav Dave in a written reply said that the NEAC could not be conducted during during the financial years 2015-16 and 2016-17.

"A total of 13,336 campaigns were conducted under NEAC during financial year 2014-15," Dave said.

He added, "However NEAC could not be conducted during the financial years 2015-16 and 2016-17 due to inadequacy of funds".

He said the government has assessed the outcome of the campaign in the country.
 

"The evaluation of the programme on NEAC has been undertaken to make it more effective in promoting environmental awareness amongst all sections of society," he said.

According to the ministry's website, NEAC was launched in mid-1986 with the objective of creating environmental awareness at the national level.

In this campaign, nominal financial assistance is provided to NGOs, schools, colleges, universities, research institutes, women and youth organisations, army units, and government departments from all over the country for conducting awareness raising and action-oriented activities.
