Necessary arrangements such as power back up woule be made in areas affected by rains for ensuring smooth counting of votes polled in the May 16 assembly elections in Tamil Nadu tomorrow, a top official said today.

Chief Electoral Officer Rajesh Lakhoni said the officials had been directed to provide adequate arrangements including generators at the counting centres in rain-hit areas to ensure uninterrupted power supply.

Several parts of the state, including the city, were experiencing rains for the past three days under the influence of a deep depression in the Bay of Bengal.

However, the Met office has forecast gradual decrease in rainfall with the deep depression moving to Andhra Pradesh coast.

Tamil Nadu recorded total vote per centage of 74.26 per cent with more women voting than men.
