Firmly of the belief that the US-India relationship can be the defining relationship of the 21st century, Indian-origin Congressman Ami Bera has said the two countries need to promote bilateral trade, which would benefit both the nations.
"I strongly believe that the US-India relationship can be the defining relationship of the 21st century. We need to further promote bilateral trade, which will ultimately lead to more jobs in both countries," said Bera, the only Indian-American lawmaker said during a Congressional hearing.
"I look forward to Prime Minister Modi's upcoming visit to the US to reinvigorate our ties with a natural friend and partner," Bera said.
He was participating in a House Committee on Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific hearing yesterday to examine the future of the US-India relationship.
"As an Indian-American, I am proud that the Indian diaspora has made many remarkable accomplishments in the United States.
"Especially notable is India's foreign direct investment, which has resulted in more than 100,000 jobs in the United States," he said.
