Attending the inauguration ceremony of the five-day long 'Sabha Mahotsav' at the Bali 'Satra' in Rangiya this evening, Patnaik said there is scope for further improvement in the condition of roads and highways in Assam.
The Governor expressed concern that in some satras (Vaishnavite monasteries) of Barpeta district women are not allowed entry.
Patnaik said "it is not correct" to deny entry to women in those 'satras' and expressed hope that steps would be taken to address the issue.
Speaking about the 'satra' tradition in Assam, Patnaik said philosopher-scholars like Srimanta Sankadeva played a major role in the history of Assam and in spreading of the Vaishnavite culture.
