Expressing concern over lack of healthcare facilities in tribal areas in the state, Rajasthan Governor Margaret Alva today asked authorities to make efforts to offer special incentives to those living in these areas.

"I have visited tribal areas in the state and there are issues of job, electricity and other facilities in such areas. One of the main problems is that doctors, nurses are not prepared to stay in such areas for which efforts should be made by offering special incentives," she said.

Alva was interactive with media after inaugurating a new building for the Tribal Welfare Cell (TWC) in Raj Bhawan in the presence of Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.

"Tribal areas in the state are peaceful as people have own lands. There may be some local issues but there is no major clash between the tribal people and local district administration like other states," she said.

The governor also laid stress over protecting lakes and preventing local waste from being dumped in the lakes and water bodies.

"Lakes need to be protected. I was informed by an official that the state government is working to form lake conservation authority which is a welcoming move," she said.

The governor also revealed that she yesterday went to the newly opened Ghat ki Guni tunnel in the city, where a woman and her 8-month old infant had died in a road accident last month, to check the arrangements.

She went there without her motorcade and district administration and police had no information about her visit.

"This was to check the condition there. There was a room for medical help but it was defunct so I asked the company which collect toll to make available first aid service in case of any emergency," Alva said.

The governor also rubbished the comments made by BJP state President Vasundhara Raje that Alva was unhappy with the state government's functioning, saying she should not be dragged into political crossfire.

The Tribal Welfare Cell (TWC) inaugurated by Alva assists the Governor in discharge of gubernatorial functions regarding the Scheduled areas. It is engaged in the monitoring of the government policies and schemes for the benefit of the tribals of these areas.

The TWC also monitors the Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) budget to ensure that intended benefits reach the targeted beneficiaries.
