According to him, this would impress upon the youth that unity and integrity of the country cannot not be taken for granted and that they would have to remain eternally vigilant to protect the hard fought freedom of the country.
The Governor expressed these views at the inaugural function of the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund collection and drive for the year 2012-2013 at Raj Bhavan here, an official release said.
The programme was organised by the Mumbai City and official Mumbai Suburban district Collectorates and the Directorate of Sainik Welfare.
Citing that India was a 'young' nation with 40 per cent of population in the age group of 13-35 years, the Governor said the country could reap the demographic dividend by equipping the youth with education and technical skills.
He asked schools and colleges to encourage more youth to join NCC, Scouts and Guides, National Service Scheme and on similar programmes to instill in them the spirit of service to the nation.
Ex-servicemen who give the prime of their life to service of the nation deserved to get better opportunities for re-employment after their tenure with the Armed Forces was for over, he said.
