There is a need to work together with the Centre to strengthen cooperative federalism in the country, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said today.

Addressing the first meeting of the Governing Council of Niti Aayog here, he said that poverty is a biggest challenge faced by the country and there is a need to find ways to end it and create more job opportunities.

He supported the view taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi that there is a need to work together with the Centre to strengthen a model of cooperative federalism to make Team India a success, a press release issued by the state government said.

Chouhan said that the Prime Minister has been Chief Minister for a long time and he understands the problems which the states face and is also aware of Centre-state relationship.

"Now with the formation of NITI Aayog, things will change in a positive direction," he said.

Chouhan welcomed the Prime Minister's decision to empower the states with finances, technology and knowledge to help them plan better.

He said that the idea is to bring all the states together in the spirit of 'sabka saath and sabka vikas'.
