The man had been preparing for National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for admission in medical colleges on his own for the last one-and-a-half-year, he said.
Rajendra last afternoon went to mess for lunch with his friends but did not turn up in the evening, Lal said, adding, his friends today visited his room after their repeated phone calls went unanswered.
As the room was bolted from inside, his friends peeped into the room from its backside and found Rajendra hanging from the ceiling fan.
They informed police who broke the door open and recovered the body, the ASI said.
A suicide note was recovered from the spot in which Rajendra apologised to his mother "for not been able to prove him her that he was a good son", the officer said, adding he blamed none in the note.
According to his friends, Rajendra was an average student and had made several attempts in past to clear the NEET but failed, the ASI said.
The body was sent to MBS hospital for the postmortem.
