A new book takes a look into public events that shaped India's recent history besides providing insights into many personalities who shaped it including Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi.
"From Partition to Operation Bluestar" is written by Som Nath Dhar, who started his career as a journalist in Lahore, and was part of Nehru's staff for a few months before returning to journalism.
The book, full of anecdotes, transports the reader from pre-Partition Punjab to Delhi and Kashmir, with side trips to East Africa and Europe.

Dhar died here on December 9 at the age of 88 just before the book was published by HarperCollins India.
The book was launched here by his daughters Pamposh Dhar, who edited the book, and Tara Hussain.
The book offers interesting insights into the life of Indian leaders, in particular the towering personality of Nehru.
