Students pursuing various academic degrees at the North Eastern Hill University today threatened to intensify agitations if the Centre failed to appoint a full-fledged vice-chancellor of the university within September 30.
The resolution was adopted at a black-flag meeting convened by the Joint Action Committee, an umbrella students body consistinf of the Khasi Students Union - NEHU Unit, Meghalaya Post Graduate Students' Union (MPGSU) and NEHU-Students' Union.
"We want to send a clear message to the Centre to appointment a regular Vice-Chancellor in the university with September 30, failing which we will be forced to take up democratic agitations," JAC chairman Pynkmenlang Sanmiet said.
He said the university which is presently functioning with an 'acting vice-chancellor' as the head also has an 'acting registrar' and an 'acting controller of examination.
Earlier in the day, hundreds of students met in front of the NEHU central library with blag flags as a protest against the appointment of "acting-administrators" for over the past two years in the University.
The JAC appealed to the Meghalaya government to take up the matter with the Centre.
