Nepal foreign minister, Indian envoy oversee preparations for Modi's visit to Janakpur

Nepal's Foreign Minister Pradeep Kumar Gyawali and Indian envoy to the country Manjeev Singh Puri today visited Janakpur to take stock of arrangements for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the historic and religious city on May 11.

Gyawali was accompanied by Puri in the flight to Janakpur in a Nepali Army helicopter gifted by India.

"Foreign Minister of Nepal Mr. Pradeep Gyawali flying to Janakpur today with Ambassador Puri to take stock of arrangements for PM Modi's visit in Hindustan Aeronautics' Advanced Light Helicopter. The ALH was gifted to Nepal Army by Prime Minister Modi in 2014," Indian Embassy in Kathmandu tweeted.

 

Modi will begin his two-day Nepal visit from the historic and religious city of Janakpur.

Modi is visiting Nepal at the invitation of Prime Minister of Nepal K P Sharma Oli.

This will be Modi's third visit to Nepal and the first high-level visit from India since the formation of the new Government in Nepal.

During the visit, he will hold talks with his counterpart Oli, call on the President and Vice President of Nepal, and interact with senior leaders of various political parties of Nepal.

He will also be visiting the historic city of Muktinath.

The visit is the part regular high-level exchanges between India and Nepal, and will enable leaders to discuss matters of mutual interest and strengthen cooperation in all areas of age-old, multi-faceted and expanding partnership between the two countries, the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi said in a statement.
