Senior Nepali Congress leader Sher Bahadur Deuba has accused the main opposition UCPN-Maoist of causing obstructions in the long-delayed drafting of the country's new constitution.
Talking to reporters in Jhapa district in eastern Nepal yesterday the former prime minister alleged the UCPN-Maoist of raising unnecessary issues in an attempt to foil the constitution writing process.
He was in Jhapa to attend the zonal level party cadres' training in the neighbouring district.

"We would be flexible on the proposal presented by ruling alliances the Nepali Congress and CPN (UML). The parties should fulfil their responsibility to give outlet to the country by delivering a constitution within the stipulated time frame of January 22, 2014 but UCPN-Maoist has created unnecessary hindrances in the process," Deuba said.
Deuba said that the new Constitution would be promulgated on time as per the mandate of the people.
The disputed issues of the new constitution would be finalised through dialogue as most of the issues have been already settled, he said.
Nepal's political parties are yet to agree on forms of governance, number of federal units and electoral system to be incorporated in the new constitution.
