Seventy-five farmers from eastern Nepal's 11 districts are in the city for four-day farm event-CII Agro Tech here.
"India has achieved milestone in agriculture with having best farming techniques and high yielding varieties...We want India should help farming community in Nepal to provide impetus to agriculture so that farming can fetch better returns," Durga Prasad, the leader of the farmers' delegation, said today.
He said farming in Nepal is carried out in a traditional way unlike in India where farm mechanisation has almost changed the face of farming sector.
"Majority of farmers in Nepal still carry out manual farming as the country lags behind in adopting mechanisation process," said another farmer, Dinesh Yadav.
Farmers in Nepal grow conventional crops like paddy, wheat, sugarcane and fruits such as mango, banana, pineapple and cardamom.
About 67 per cent of population in Nepal is still dependent on agriculture while farming has 39 per cent share in GDP.
"We want India to provide high yielding varieties of paddy and wheat to improve productivity of the crop. We also want processing techniques in the field of fruits like mango" said another farmer, Sambhu Lal Chaudhary.
