Nepali Congress wins 3 seats in by-polls

Prime Minister Sushil Koirala's Nepali Congress party has won three seats in the by-elections for the Constituent Assembly held in four constituencies across Nepal.

Another ruling party, CPN-UML managed to win one seat in the by-election yesterday, according to Nepal's Election Commission.

Nepali Congress candidate Deepak Kuinkel has won from Kathmandu constituency-1 defeating his nearest rival from CPN-UML, Krishna Gopal Shrestha.

Similarly, Pushkar Nath Ojha and Krishna Ghimire have been elected from Kailali-6 constituency and Chitawan-1 constituency.

Likewise, CPN-UML candidate Shyam Dhakal has won from the Bardiya constituency-1 defeating his nearest rival from Nepali Congress Sode Bista.

With this victory, NC has won eight out of 10 seats in the capital.
 

However, UCPN-Maoist, the main opposition party, could not win any seat in the by-elections, which saw 70 per cent voter turnout.
