Nisha Adhikari, a young Nepalese actress successfully scaled Mt Everest today amid a controversy over her permit to climb the world's highest peak.

27-year-old Nisha became the first Nepali actress to reach the 8,848 metre-high summit, according to Tilak Pandey, an official at Tourism Ministry.

Nisha stepped on the summit at about 8 am today having left for the base camp on April 9.

However, her Everest adventure became controversial after it was discovered that she did not have the permission to climb the peak, as the papers showed her as an assistant in a Chinese expedition team.

No climber can go beyond the base camp without expedition permit issued by the Nepalese government.

The hurdles were later cleared after Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation said that it will not stop her from climbing the Everest for their expedition itinerary does not breach the existing rules.
