Nepali woman scales highest peaks of all continents

A 35-year-old Nepali woman has become the country's first climber to have scaled the tallest peaks of all the seven continents after conquering the world's highest peak Mt. Everest.

Susmita Maskey was felicitated today soon after she arrived here from Mt. Vinson Massif, the highest peak of Antarctica, which was her final destination towards climbing the seven highest peaks of all the continents.

Susmita, a resident of Kathmandu, started her journey by successfully climbing Mt. Everest (8,848 m) on May 22, 2008 for the first time and conquered it again on May 18, 2011.

She climbed Europe's highest peak Elbrus (5,642 m) located in Russia on June 26, 2013, Mt. Kilimanjaro (5,896 m), Africa's highest peak situated in Tanzania on July 5, 2013 and Mt. Koscuiszko (2,228 m) of Australia on July 25, 2013.
 

South America's highest peak Mt. Aconcagua (6,961 m) in Argentina was scaled on January 13, 2014, North America's Mt. Mckinlay (6,194m)on June 23, 2014 and Mt. Vinson Massif (4,892 m) of Antarctica on December 6, 2014.

After climbing the Everest, Susmita scaled highest peaks of the six continents in just 17 months.

Nepal Mountaineering Association president Ang Tshering Sherpa and Nepali Congress Lawmaker Navindra Raj Joshi jointly felicitated Susmita for her success in setting new record in the world of mountaineering.

Susmita has not only set a new record in the history of mountaineering, but she has also uplifted the prestige of Nepal in international arena by hoisting the Nepalese flags on the highest points of all seven continents, said Ang Tshering Sherpa.
