Chairing the 21st annual general meeting of NERIST Society at its campus in Nirjuli yesterday, Singh said, engineers of the Institute should not take the beaten track but come up with innovation and chart their own track, official sources informed here today.
Stressing that institute should be of national standard, he opined that as NERIST is an important Institute for the North East, the North Eastern Council should cater to its needs.
Pointing its importance to the region and especially for Arunachal Pradesh, the Governor assured the members of raising issues related to the institute with the Union Human Resource Development ministry.
Suggesting start of courses or programmes like structural engineering and food processing to benefit the region, he called for involving alumni of the Institute for placement of NERIST graduates.
The Governor felicitated the entire faculty and other members of the NERIST family for their untiring support and contribution towards the Institute.
NERIST Board of Management chairman, M P Bezbaruah expressed his concern on the problems of general pension, encroachment and placement of NERIST graduates.
Director Prof Dipankar Pal informed that the institute has signed a MoU with American University of Sharjah, UAE, one of the top ranking universities to enhance collaboration in terms of research, research supervision, projects and exchange programmes for mutual benefit.
"This is the 'first of its kind' initiative taken by NERIST in 28 years of its existence," he said.
