Netam, Verma file nominations for RS from Chhattisgarh

The ruling BJP's Ramvichar Netam and the main opposition Congress's nominee Chhaya Verma today filed nomination papers for the two Rajya Sabha seats from Chhattisgarh.

Netam and Verma filed their nominations this afternoon for the biennial election, the Assembly's Principal Secretary Devendra Verma told PTI.

Netam, BJP's national secretary and former state minister, was accompanied by Chief Minister Raman Singh, state BJP president Dharamlal Kaushik, ministers Ajay Chandrakar and Premprakash Pandey while filing his nomination papers.

Verma was accompanied by state Congress chief Bhupesh Baghel, leader of opposition in the Assembly, T S Singhdeo and others.

Of the five Rajya Sabha members from Chhattisgarh, the term of Nand Kumar Sai (BJP) and Mohsina Kidwai (Congress) is due to expire next month.
 

The other three sitting MPs are Bhushan Lal Jangde and Ranvijay Pratap Singh Judeo of BJP and Motilal Vora of Congress.

In the 90-member Chhattisgarh Assembly, BJP has 49 members, Congress 39, BSP one and one independent.
