President Mamnoon Hussain today conferred the Nishan-e-Imtiaz, Pakistan's highest honour, on new army chief Gen Raheel Sharif and Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee chairman Gen Rashad Mehmood.

The investiture ceremony at the presidency was attended by civil and military leaders, including Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

The army chief is the younger brother of Maj Shabbir Sharif, who won the country's highest military award - the Nishaan-e-Haider - for his services in the 1971 war with India.
