New auction house in Delhi offers 109 lots for sale

Artworks ranging from modern masters to those from the pre-Independence as well as contemporary artists are set to come under the hammer soon in an auction by new entrant Art Deal.

The inaugural auction titled "Pre-Independence Modern Masters Contemporary Genius" organised by the Art Deal auction House is set to be held in the city on January 30, auctioneers said in a statement.

Artists include Jamini Roy, Nandalal Bose M V Dhurandha, Gaganendranath Tagore, Abanindranath Tagore, those from the Kalighat School, Mukul Chandra Dey, Devi Prasad Roy Chowdhury, Benode Behari Mukherjee, Abani Sen, Ram Kinkar Baij Chittaprasad Bhattacharya, Pran Krishna Pal and Rameshwar Broota among others.
 

Two sculptures by Megha Joshi and Yogesh Mahida are also included in the sale, which contains a total of 10 lots.

The auction house is fronted by Siddhartha Tagore, who says it "was dream he lived with since childhood."

Tagore held his first auction in 1998 in association with WWF India titled "Preserve the Web of Life". In 2011 he initiated the Art Bull Auction House and after leaving the auction house, he says he decided to start his own auction house.

Meanwhile the prices of artworks start at Rs 50,000 for a work by artist Pratibha Singh while one by Rameshwar Broota at Rs 75,00,000 is the highest priced.
