A new-born girl was allegedly abandoned by a woman, suspected to be her mother, at the premises of Tagore Garden Metro Station in west Delhi, police said today.

The child, less than a month old, was left at the station at around 2.30 pm yesterday. A commuter who noticed the abandoned infant in a corner, close to the stairs and near Gate No. 4 of the metro station, raised an alarm, following which security officials informed the police and the baby was rescued.

When CCTV footage was checked, the police found a woman, believed to be the girl's mother, abandoning her at the spot. However, the woman's identity could not be ascertained, a police official said.

The baby has been shifted to a child care centre in south-west Delhi's Dabri area, where she is presently being taken care of.

"Today we registered a case under Section 317 of IPC and a team has been formed to track down the accused," DCP (Metro) Jitendra Mani said.

Police is also tracking records of all hospital in west and south-west Delhi regarding all deliveries which have taken place in the past one month.
