The new CPI-M state secretariat was formed on the opening day of the party's two-day state committee meeting here being attended by its general secretary Sitaram Yechuri, politburo member Prakash Karat and former chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee among others.

Apart from Bhattacharya, who was elected mayor of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation, former party MP Ramchandra Dom has also been made a permanent invitee in the state secretariat.

Other members are Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, Biman Bose, Surjya Kanta Mishra, Md Selim, Madan Ghosh, Shyamal Chakrabarty, Mridul Dey, Gautam Deb, Dipak Dasgupta, Nripen Chowdhury, Sridip Bhattacharya, Dipak Sarkar, Rabin Deb, Amiya Patra, Sujan Chakrabarty and Minati Ghosh.

Last month's election to Kolkata Municipal Corporation and 91 civic bodies across the state and political situation in the state came in for discussion at the meeting. Discussion on the party organisation and future course of movement is under way, a press release issued by the party said.

CPI-M state secretary and politburo member Surjya Kanta Mishra who spoke at the beginning of the meeting, said the ruling party had unleashed unprecedented terror during the civic poll.

There was no fundamental change in the state's political scenario, he said, adding, that the positive side was that at many places attempts were made to put up resistance.
