Although Andhra Pradesh government had decided to make wearing of helmets compulsory for two-wheeler riders from today, state Transport Minister S Raghava Rao said the new date for implementation will be announced later.

He said the rule to enforce wearing of helmets for two-wheeler riders will not be implemented from today.

The minister said the date for the implementation of the rule will be announced later after consultations with state Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

Rao told reporters here that transport and police officials have been asked to create awareness on the issue, but should not insist two-wheeler riders to wear helmets.

Meanwhile, this morning Vijayawada police had pressed 10 teams to file cases against riders who were not wearing helmets.

Andhra Pradesh government had earlier announced that wearing of helmets will be made compulsory in the state from November 1.
