National capital New Delhi is gaining interest among global travellers and has been ranked 7 in the top 10 global cities with over 28% annual growth in booking interest, a survey today said.

New Delhi is the only Asian city listed in the top 10 global cities in TripAdvisor's 2016 travellers' choice destinations on the rise.

India's capital is a vibrant tapestry of historical relics, cultural display, satellite neighbourhoods and mega malls. The impressive Humayun's Tomb offers a glimpse into the city's ancient past, while scenic marketplaces provide an authentic feel of the busy metropolis.

The 'Travellers' Choice awards for Destinations on the Rise' highlights 52 destinations around the world selected using an algorithm that primarily measured the year-over-year increase in positive TripAdvisor traveller feedback and interest in accommodations, restaurants and attractions, across destinations worldwide.

Increase in booking interest year-over-year is based on TripAdvisor data for October 2014 through October 2015.

"Our well-travelled community has helped us identify the destinations around the world that are gaining in interest and popularity," TripAdvisor chief marketing officer Barbara Messing said.

Other cities that have featured in the Travellers' Choice Destinations on the Rise are - Tulum in Mexico with over 74% rise in booking interest annually, followed by Cartagena in Colombia with over 49%, Porto in Portugal with over 39%, Gatlinburg in US with over 67%, Moscow in Russia with over 27% and Brighton in UK with over 60% booking interest.

Two Indian cities - New Delhi and Bengaluru - topped the Asian ranking as destinations in Asia that are on the rise, it said.
