New HIV positive case in Lower Subansiri

A fresh HIV positive case has been reported from Lower Subansiri district in Arunachal Pradesh this year taking the number of those affected by the killer disease in the area to four.

Arunachal Pradesh State AIDS Control Society (APSACS) said four cases of HIV positive were detected in the district till 2014, of whom one died.

There are more than hundred HIV positive cases in the state as per data available with the APSACS.

As per records of the district hospital at Ziro since 2006 only 8,486 persons came forward for test. Among them one detected as HIV positive in 2008, three in 2011 and one in 2014. At present the district has officially 4 HIV positive cases including two females.
 

The records show that the district has a large number of patients with sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). As per data available since 2011, a total 1,586 persons were tested at the Veneral Disease Research Laboratory (VDRL) and 134, including 108 women, tested positive.

The affected persons were mostly in the age group of 20 and 35 year, the hospital records said.
