The Government has said new metro rail projects were under consideration in several cities and it is awaiting details from the States for the projects.
"New metro rail projects are under consideration in several cities including Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Pune, Tri-city of Chandigarh, Punchkula and Mohali," Urban Development minister Kamal Nath said in reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha.
He said the States are yet to give required details of these projects.

The minister, however, noted that MoUD has not received any proposal for new metro rail projects in West Bengal.
Nath said his ministry has decided to give priority to cities having population of more than 20 Lakhs as per the 2011 census, adding, that the availability of funds are considered before the project is sanctioned.
He said that his ministry is also taking several steps to promote Transport Oriented Development (TOD) through integrated land use and transport as mentioned in the National Urban Transport Policy (NUTP) 2006.
"MoUD is preparing a guidance document for TDO under the World Bank - UNDP - GEF assisted Sustainable Urban Transport Project," Nath told the Rajya Sabha.
