: TRS working president K T Rama Rao Friday said the new municipalities act passed by the Assembly would help check corruption and provide services with transparency to the people.
In an informal interaction with mediapersons, he said that giving the facility of self-assessment (in house tax assessment) "reflects the spirit of democracy."
The Telangana Assembly passed the new legislation on municipalities Friday.
Rao said the party membership has crossed 35 lakh during the ongoing enrollment drive and that it would cross the previous total membership of 43 lakh.
He said BJP is quite ambitious about its growth in the state after winning four Lok Sabha constituencies, but the party had won only a small number of seats in the subsequent Zilla Parishad polls.
Congress appears to be in a crisis at the national level and is in poor shape even in Telangana, he said.
