New Pak High Commissioner arrives to take charge

Abdul Basit, High Commissioner designate of Pakistan to India, arrived here today to succeed Salman Bashir who went back home last month after serving for about two years.

He was received at the airport here by a representative of the Ministry of External Affairs, Deputy High Commissioner Mansoor A Khan and officers of the Pakistan High Commission.

Basit was serving as Pakistan's Ambassador to Germany prior to his present assignment.

Born in 1958, Basit holds Master's Degree in International Relations and joined the Foreign Service of Pakistan in 1982.

During his diplomatic career, he held important assignments at Pakistan Missions abroad in Moscow, New York, Sana'a, Geneva and London, said a Pakistan High Commission statement here.
 

He served at Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs as director from 1997 to 2001, as director general from 2008 to 2009, spokesman from 2009 to 2010 and Additional Secretary Europe from 2009 to 2012, it said.
