: M Chandra Sekhar assumed charge as the new city police commissioner here today, replacing outgoing chief S Murugan.
Chandra Sekhar had been serving as the Joint Commissioner (Crime), Bengaluru city.
A B.Tech graduate in Aerospace Engineering from IIT Kharagpur, Chandra Sekhar had worked in the IT field for nearly two years before joining the Police Department. Addressing the media officially after taking charge,the Commissioner said maintaining law and order in the cityand people-friendly policing would be his priority.

He said he would study the communally sensitive situation in the city before taking adequate measures as the city police chief.
Modern technology would be utilized for better functioning of the police department.
The department would tryto be more active on the social media for getting better reach to the people.
Strict action would be taken against those who misuse social media to spread communal hatred, he said.
Sekhar, who came on deputation to the Karnataka police in 2009, had earlier served in the posts of DSP Shimla, ADC to Governor of Himachal Pradesh, SI of Bilaspur and Mandi in Himachal Pradesh.
He worked as Deputy Commissioner of Police,EastDivision, Bengaluru City till 2012 and had also served as Deputy Inspector General of Police, Karnataka Fire and Emergency Service in the next two years.
