A new police station on the Bhutni island in the district was inaugurated today for effective policing along the sensitive area of the state bordering the states of Jharkhand and Bihar.
The new police station, Bhutni PS, was inaugurated today by state minister and local MLA Sabitri Mitra in the presence of the District Magistrate and the district Superintendent of Police, local BDO Utpal Mukherjee said adding, Ranjit Majumdar was appointed the first Officer in-Charge of the new police station.
"Earlier, there was a police outpost on the island, which has an estimated population of around one lakh and is surrounded by Kosi, Ganga and Fulhar rivers. Criminals used to commit crimes and sneak into from Bihar and Jharkhand to take shelter on Bhutni island. The new police station will effectively deal with such criminal activities apart from the usual policing jobs," said Mukherjee.
The Bhutni police station would have three Gram Panchayats - Uttar Chandipur, Dakshin Chandipur and Hiranandapur - under its jurisdiction, the BDO added.
