Government today appointed H C Meena as Secretary (Security) in place of Yashovarshan Azad who was made Information Commissioner in November last year.
Meena, a 1976 batch IPS officer, was shunted from his post of Director General of Rajasthan Police after change of government in Rajasthan where the BJP dispensation headed by Vasundhara Raje Scindia took over.
The name of Meena, brother of Minister of State for Finance Namo Narain Meena, was cleared by the Appointments Committee of Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Meena will look after the administration of Special Protection Group (SPG), responsible for closely monitoring the security arrangements of the Prime Minister, former Prime Ministers and members of their immediate families in India and abroad.
