The introduction of a new software has simplified the passport application process in the country, according to Regional Passport Officer, Mumbai Swati Kulkarni
"Online appointment system has helped in managing passport applications in a scientific manner," Kulkarni said.
She was speaking at a seminar held here last evening to allay the misconceptions about obtaining passport.

Introduction of biometric finger prints and system-captured photographs have helped promote transparency in the issue of passports, she said.
There are 78 Passport Seva Kendras in operation across India, Kulkarni said, adding, the Minister for External Affairs Sushma Swaraj wants passport service centres to be established even at the district level.
Thane RPO T D Sharma said lack of documentation is one of the primary reasons for delay in issuance of passports.
Many applicants still do not attach appropriate documents, he said, adding, online tracking facility helps in knowing at which stage the passport process is in.
Tanmoy Chakraborty of TCS explained the software system which is being used for issuance of passports and the benefits it has provided to the citizens.
Obtaining an Indian passport under the new system has become painless and there is no need to depend upon an agent, he said.
