To ensure the quality data availability in time to the farmers, a new software is being introduced.
Speaking at the National Workshop on Cost of Cultivation Scheme Dr S K Mukherjee, Senior Economic and Statistical Adviser, Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare, said today that quality data collection and timely availability was important for fixing the price of agricultural commodities.
He explained the importance of cost of cultivation scheme and the change in concept of the scheme once in four years according to the need.

Explaining about the operation of cost of cultivation scheme all over India, Additional Statistical Adviser in the ministry Chander Kant said that each state principal crops have been identified and data collected.
The scheme was in operation from 1971 in Tamil Nadu for collecting data on 12 commodities in various parts of state, which would definitely increase the net income of the farmer, he said.
Inaugurating the workshop, Principal Secretary-Commissioner Department of Economics and Statistics, Government of Tamil Nadu, Dr V Irai Anbu stressed the importance of cost aspects of various principal crops and also importance of the quality data.
Due to increasing importance of nutritional security in Tamil Nadu, the efforts may be taken to include the prominent horticulture crops in the collection of data on cost of cultivation, he pointed out.
