Bose: Dead/Alive, a new series on digital content platform AltBalaji, will attempt to unravel the mysteries surrounding the life and times of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose with Rajkummar Rao in the titular role.

Directed by national-award winning filmaker Hansal Mehta, the series will start streaming on the Balaji Telefilms-owned app from November 20.

The CEO of Balaji Telefilms, Ekta Kapoor, said the makers did not compromise with any fact while making the series.

"Every documented fact was discussed. A chronology-wise storyboard was made with inputs from various researchers. We took at least a year to put all facts in a linear format. But in the end, it all boils down to your belief," she said at a press meet.

Asked if she would play safe in the web series, Kapoor said she had never done that in any of her productions.

"I feel dignity to a hero such as Bose can be given only if we tell his story after proper research. We did not compromise on facts just to make 100 people happy," she said.

Director Mehta said digital medium was the future of entertainment.

"The web space is where we can get the audience that wants to know about Netaji," he said.

Asked if he was apprehensive about trolling on his new series, Mehta said people do that out of ignorance. "The moment you watch the truth you are not ignorant anymore," he said.

Rao, who rated the role as his most ambitious project till date, said the script was well written and he could instantly connect with the character.

"We made this show with a lot of hard work and love. A lot of preparation went behind the shoots. I had to gain weight for the role and learn Bengali," he said.
