New year function: Chennai Police issues guidelines

City Police have warned of stern action against those misbehaving with women and indulging in activities including racing and speeding during the new year celebrations tomorrow night.

Police issued a set of guidelines to individual revellers as well as clubs and hotels that hold new year bashes, listing out a series of the Dos and Don'ts.

"Under the garb of wishing new year, involving in activities like making fun of women should not be done. Stern action will be taken against violators," a police release here said.

Further, the police have asked the individual revellers not to poke fun at others and speed-racing or wheeling or using spray colours on others and desist from lighting firecrackers in places where people throng in groups.
 

Drunken driving will be sternly dealt with, added the police guidelines.

As for star hotels and clubs, police have asked them to follow a series of safety and security guidelines.

These include winding up the celebrations by 1 am, keeping the swimming pool closed from the evening of tomorrow till the morning of January 1, not erecting any temporary structures over or by the pool and installing adequate cameras.

The police warned of action against hotels and clubs which violate the rules.
