Newborn found abandoned in dustbin in southeast Delhi

A newborn girl has been found abandoned near a dustbin in Shani Bazar area of southeast Delhi, police said today.

The girl was found by a man near the dustbin who made a informed the police yesterday around 11.00 PM, said a senior police officer.

The child is five-six days old and is currently admitted in the neonatal intensive care unit (ICU) of a nearby hospital.

"The PCR (police control room) staff rushed to the spot within three minutes and found the newborn baby whose body was covered with jute bag.

"The child responded to the light of the vehicle and was immediately taken to the nearest Apollo Hospital within five minutes and admitted in Neonatal ICU in conscious and safe condition and she is responding well," he said.
 

Life of the child could not have been saved if the child was left abandoned near open dustbin, he added.

A case under section 317 (Exposure and abandonment of child under twelve years, by parent or person having care of it) of IPC has been registered and police is looking for the parents of the baby girl, said the officer.
