Newborn found dumped in drain

The body of a new born baby was today found dumped in a sewer in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, police said.

The body was recovered in Ramachandrapuram area by police in the early hours after a lineman Venkateswara Rao from the electricity department saw the baby in the drain while he was climbing a nearby pole, they said.

According to police, S Durga had delivered a weak and underweight baby on Thursday at the Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Pasarlapudi village in the district following which doctors advised her relatives to refer the child to Rajahmundry Government General hospital.
 

However, the baby died on the way to the hospital while Durga was still hospitalised at the PHC, they said.

The newborn was dumped into the drain by relatives of Durga, who later came to know about her child's death on gaining consciousness.

She subsequently filed a complaint against her relatives with Ramachandrapuram police station.
