Newly appointed Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) Chief Secretary Harcharan Singh took over the charge of his office today in presence of senior functionaries of the Sikh religious body.
SGPC President Avtar Singh Makkar handed over the appointment letter to Singh in a brief religious function at its headquarters here.
Makkar said that Singh was a seasoned and experienced person to look after and improve the functioning of over 100 educational institutions, including medical, engineering colleges and university run by the SGPC.

The newly appointed Chief Secretary would also be helpful to promote Sikhism all over the country and the world, he said.
He said the current budget of SGPC touched Rs 1,000 crore and the body is heading to pay salaries to their employees according to the recommendations of its pay commission.
