Newly-elected village head's son attacked after poll results

A son of a newly-elected village head and his friend were injured when a poll opponent and his supporters allegedly attacked them after declaration of election result in Nandi village here, police said today.

Mazid Ali and his friend Kadir were attacked with sharp-edged weapons and sticks by another candidate Tufail Ahmad and his supporters last night when they were on their way to meet a friend, SHO of Bazar Shukul police station Santosh Yadav said.

Mohammad Javaid, Mazid's father, had defeated Tufail with a margin of four votes only, he said.

The injured were rushed to a community health centre here where after first aid doctors referred them to trauma centre in Lucknow, Yadav said.
 

On the complaint of Javaid, an FIR was lodged against seven named and five unnamed persons, the SHO said, adding that no one was arrested till the report came in.
