A 24-year-old newly-married woman, her brother and two others were arrested today for allegedly trying to loot valuables from her in-laws' house after sedating family members in Dug town of Rajasthan's Jhalawar district, police said.

According to the police, the woman, Ranu Sain, a resident of Badnagar in Ujjain district in Madhya Pradesh, was married off to Daru Singh of Chandarpura village on October 17.

The groom's family allegedly "purchased" the bride for Rs 80,000, they said, adding that the deal was brokered by 40- year-old Kalibai, a woman hailing from Dug town.

Dug police station SHO Luv Kumar Tiwari said Ranu Sain's elder brother Ravi and his friend Dharmendra reached her in- laws' house on October 26.

The same evening, the trio tried to flee with valuables and cash after sedating her husband, father-in-law and brother-in-law, he said.

They had mixed some poisonous substance in tea served to the family members, police said, adding that the trio failed in their bid after some villagers visited the house and caught them.

Ritu Sain's in-laws were undergoing treatment at a hospital, police said.

A case was registered against the trio from Madhya Pradesh and Kalibai at Dug police station under IPC sections 328 (causing hurt by means of poison, etc., with intent to commit an offence) and 120B (punishment of criminal conspiracy) yesterday.

They were arrested today and produced in a court in Choumahala town of Jhalawat district which sent them to police custody, the SHO said.
