A newly-wed Pakistani woman was arrested today for allegedly trying to kill her husband on their wedding day.

Irfan, 25, was critically injured yesterday after he was shot at by two unidentified gunmen in Shafiqabad area in the city, just as he was returning home from his wedding along with his wife Zara.

The gunmen fled the scene, police said.

The groom's father filed an FIR, following which police detained the bride and two others, Geo News reported.

The groom's sister alleged that the bride was not seen in the car after the attack. She accused the bride of having extramarital affair.

The bride said that the allegations of relations with anyone were baseless.

"If I had relations with anyone then why would I have gotten married in the first place," she said.

Zara said that she left the car because she was scared due to firing. The bride added that she had no idea why the attack took place on the groom's car.
