News channels Editors to push for insurance coverage for TV

Editors of leading news channels have decided to push for an insurance cover for working electronic journalists.

"We will make efforts to ensure insurance cover to all journalists of electronic media especially those working in the field, whether in full time of part time capacity," Shazi Zaman, editor of ABP news, who was re-elected as the President of BEA at the Annual General meeting of the Broadcast Editors' Association (BEA) held here today, told PTI.

He said the aim was to include all stringers who are working for various channels as well. "We are working out all modalities and also see what help we can get from the government," he added.
 

TV journalists have at times bore the brunt of violent situation which they cover. During the recent riots in Muzaffarnagar, a TV journalist lost his life.

In the meeting, the BEA also decided that in order to encourage quality journalism in television, it would institute annual awards.

The BEA also elected its office bearers in the meeting. While Zaman was re-elected the President, N K Singh (Live India) again chosen as the General Secretary and Arnab Goswami (Times Now) as Vice President. Deepak Chaurasia (India News) will be Vice President and Supriya Prasad (Aajtak) will be the Treasurer.

Others in the Executive Committee of the BEA are Ashutosh (IBN 7), Sonia Singh (NDTV ), Ajit Anjum (News 24), Vinay Tewari (CNN-IBN), QW Naqwi (India TV), Shailesh Kumar (News Nation), Vinod Kapri (News Express), Dibang (senior journalist), Satish K Singh (senior journalist ), Pranjal Sharma (senior journalist).
