The Confederation of Newspapers and News Agencies Employees Organisations (CNNAEO) today asked the newspaper managements to implement the Majithia Wageboard recommendations in toto.

At an emergency meeting here today, the executive members of CNNAEO took strong exception to the modifications made by the newspaper managements to the Wageboard recommendations, which were upheld by the Supreme Court, thus downgrading the scales and depriving their employees the actual wages they are entitled.

In a resolution adopted at the meeting, the CNNAEO meeting resolved to get the Justice Majitha Wageboard recommendations implemented.

The Wageboard recommendations were upheld by the apex court on February 7 this year and later the review petitions against them were rejected.

The resolution said that "as per section 16 (1) of the Working Journalists and Other Newspaper Employees (Conditions of Service) and Miscellaneous Provisions Act 1955, the respective managements have to implement the award as it is without any modifications".

It also said that in case any change is made it will be a negation of the Supreme Court judgement as well as Majithia Wageboard, which cannot be done in any manner.

Confederation General Secretary M S Yadav said there was a strong resentment among the employees against the managements, who have modified the recommendations as per their "whims and fancies".

He warned of trade union action if they do not rectify the changes and fully the implement the Wageboard Award.

Those who attended the meeting include veteran trade union leader Santosh Kumar, Suresh Akhouri (IUJ-I), S N Sinha (IUJ), Paramand Pandey (IFWJ), C S Naidu (President of Indian Express Employees Unions President) and M L Joshi (UNI) and Rajbir Singh (PTI union).
