Stressing the need for a detailed water mapping of the Northeast, Water Resource Minister Uma Bharati today said that she would be holding the next meeting of the Brahmaputra Board in Shillong.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, who met Bharati here, conveyed that the Brahmaputra Board, somehow, "could not deliver desired benefits and it needed complete overhaul".
Bharati showed keen interest in the various river projects of Meghalaya and assured all necessary help to the state from her Ministry, according to a press release.
She also stated that her Ministry accords top priority to the development of the Northeast.
Sangma sought the Centre's help in de-silting of rivers in his state and suggested that soil taken out after de-silting could be used for construction of embankments.
He strongly supported inter-linking of rivers, the release said. He also planned to develop his state as a major water sports and tourist destination.
The Chief Minister said the Centre should help in the development of state water bodies.
