The Udupi unit of the National Federation of Human Rights (NFHR) rescued a 85-year old woman who was leading a solitary life in a pathetic state in an old cow-shed in the Marne village at Karkala near here.

Sunanda Naik, who had long been abandoned by her three children, had been bed-ridden since the past few days. Local social workers had been providing her with food and basic treatment.

District chief of NFHR, Udayakumar Shetty and other office bearers gave first aid to the immobile woman and shifted her to Udupi district hospital for treatment. Efforts would be made to admit her in an old age home once she is stable, Shetty said in a statement here today.
