An NGO today questioned the decision of Guru Nanak Dev University to vacate its premises in Jalandhar from where it was running one of its colleges since 1969.

In a letter to Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, NGO Punjab Human Rights Organization (PHRO) alleged irregularities in the process and demanded sacking of vice-chancellor A S Brar.

He alleged that the undertaking given by the counsel for the university in Punjab and Haryana High Court, agreeing to vacate the premises within one year despite fighting legal battle for years, "was a fraud" on the university and the judiciary.

Reacting to the allegations, Brar said, "there is nothing wrong in vacating leased land" and accused the NGO of trying to malign the name of the university with "baseless" charges.

The NGO also alleged irregularities in purchase of land in Bhatida.
