The 'Rural Litigation and Entitlement Kendra' in a letter to the Prime Minister asked him to restart these projects as it will provide employment and boost economic growth of Uttarakhand.

As a part of a "conspiracy", several hydro power projects on river Ganga were closed down, which in the process has adversely affected the state's development, Chairman, RLEK, Awadesh Kausal said.

"Few saints, who have been provided membership in the National Ganga River Basin Authority, are constantly pressurising the Centre to get all hydro power projects closed in the state," he said.

Kaushal claimed that the water neither wasted nor polluted by the hydro power plants.
